Expressive Writing Expressive writing is personal. It shares something of the writer with his/her audience. Thoughts, ideas, feelings about an experience are shared. Usually this is written in first-person and the reader is well aware of the writer's voice.
Reflective Writing Reflective writing is also personal, but it often moves beyond a simple retelling of an experience. In reflective writing the author will share what he/she learned from the experience. They will show how the experience shaped them into the person they have become. The purpose of reflective writing is to explore and discover new things about themselves.
